Plant Health Care — Proactive Tree & Shrub Protection
Southern Wisconsin trees face serious threats from oak wilt, emerald ash borer, Dutch elm disease, and changing climate conditions. Our plant health care programs combine diagnostics, preventive treatments, and ongoing monitoring to keep your landscape healthy.
Our Plant Health Care Services
Each PHC program is customized to your property, tree species, and the specific threats in your area. Here are the core treatments and services we provide.
Oak Wilt Treatment
We treat high-value oaks with propiconazole trunk injections to prevent or manage oak wilt infection. Root graft disruption prevents underground spread between adjacent oaks.
Emerald Ash Borer Protection
Trunk-injected emamectin benzoate provides 2-3 years of EAB protection per treatment. We assess ash tree health and size to determine if treatment is cost-effective.
Deep Root Fertilization
Liquid fertilizer injected into the root zone at high pressure loosens compacted soil while delivering macro and micronutrients directly where roots can absorb them.
Insect & Mite Management
Targeted treatments for Japanese beetles, aphids, scale, spider mites, bagworms, and other pests damaging your trees and shrubs. We use IPM principles to minimize impact.
Fungal Disease Control
Preventive and curative treatments for apple scab, anthracnose, tar spot, needle cast, and other fungal diseases affecting trees in Southern Wisconsin.
Soil Health & Amendments
We test soil pH and nutrient levels, then apply mycorrhizal inoculants, organic matter, and pH adjustments to optimize root zone conditions for tree health.
How Our PHC Program Works
Comprehensive Property Assessment
Our arborist inventories every tree and shrub, noting species, condition, pests, diseases, and site factors like soil, drainage, and sun exposure.
Custom Treatment Plan
Based on the assessment, we design an annual calendar of treatments timed to biological pest cycles and optimal treatment windows for your specific trees.
Scheduled Applications
Our licensed applicators visit your property at prescribed intervals throughout the growing season, applying treatments and monitoring for new issues.
Monitoring & Adjustment
We check treatment effectiveness on each visit and adjust the program as conditions change. Annual reassessment keeps the plan current with evolving threats.

Plant Health Care FAQs
Common questions about tree health programs.
What is plant health care (PHC)?
Plant health care is an integrated, proactive approach to maintaining tree and shrub vitality. Rather than waiting for problems, PHC monitors plant health, identifies stress early, and applies targeted treatments — fertilization, pest management, disease control — to keep your landscape thriving.
What tree diseases are common in Southern Wisconsin?
The most significant tree diseases in our area include oak wilt (a lethal fungal disease of red oaks), Dutch elm disease, apple scab, anthracnose, and various canker diseases. Our arborists are trained to identify and treat all regionally prevalent diseases.
Can you treat for emerald ash borer?
Yes. We provide trunk-injection treatments that protect ash trees from EAB for 2-3 years per application. Treatment is most effective for healthy ash trees before significant infestation. We assess each tree to determine if treatment is a good investment.
How does your PHC program work?
We start with a comprehensive property assessment, then design a custom annual plan that may include dormant oil sprays, insecticide treatments, fungicide applications, deep root fertilization, and soil amendments — all timed to your trees' biological cycles.
Is plant health care safe for pets and children?
We use targeted, low-impact treatments applied by licensed applicators. Trunk injections stay inside the tree. Foliar sprays are applied when wind is calm and dry on the foliage. We provide specific re-entry information for every application.
